Late winter garden tour
I stole a few minutes from multiple deadlines yesterday to take a tour of my garden. Here are a few of the plants in full bloom or just about ready to burst into bloom:
I tend to underappreciate the potato vine that beautifies a huge section of my eastern fence because it is such a reliable performer. It blooms all winter, asks for very little attention, and I sometimes take for granted the beauty and grace it brings to my garden. This tour, it gets top billing.
It has taken my vinca longer to establish itself that I would have guessed. I should be happy, it probably means the plant won’t become invasive like the ivy that preceded it. In any case, I’m happy to see it covered with coveted blue blossoms.
The ever-elegant calla lily retains this attribute even before its blossom opens.
My newer, smaller fuschia plants, like this one, are ready for spring before my world’s-happiest huge fuschia even has buds.
What better omen that spring is almost here than an almost-fully opened tulip bud? This is the first one of the year in my garden.
