On this date in 1215, King John of England signed the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta limited King John’s power, is the basis of constitutional law, and originated the notion of habeas corpus — the right to challenge one’s detention in a court.
I guess the Supreme Court’s ruling on Thursday was an early birthday gift.
