McCain’s latest gimmick

September 24, 2008

Republican presidential nominee John McCain, incredibly, announced this afternoon that he has suspended his campaign for president and is asking his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, to agree to delay Friday’s schedule debates.

Obama rightly rejected McCain’s offensive gimmick — a gimmick that once again displays McCain’s terrible and unpresidential judgment and temperament — noting, “It’s my belief that this is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who, in approximately 40 days, will be responsible for dealing with this mess. It’s going to be part of the president’s job to deal with more than one thing at once.”

Eric Rauchway at The Edge of the American West blog puts McCain’s ridiculous call for “time out” at this critical moment into perspective.
