Founding Fathers weren’t perfect

This post at Red State Blue State Rich State Poor State makes a strong argument for why the electoral college system needs a big rethink. One of my beefs, as a resident of California, and Ohio before that, is that my vote for president is weighted proportionately less than the vote of a resident in a less-populous state.

This chart expresses that idea by framing it this way: What are the odds that your vote in a particular state will make the difference in the election. We Californians have the lowest odds:

New Mexico, the state into which I was making phone calls on behalf of the Obama campaign last weekend, has the best odds.
