Relevant year-end round-up

This time of year, the media is awash in superlative end-of-year round-ups on topics ranging from most shocking celebrity meltdowns to top movies, from must-read books to most important news events. Yawn.

But this list from Slate’s Dahlia Lithwick is relevant and and not run-of-the-mill, and thus worth your time:

Legal Fictions: The Bush Administration’s Dumbest Legal Arguments of the Year 

It will remind you of boneheaded assertions like the claim that the vice president’s office is not a part of the executive branch, that Scooter Libby’s sentence was excessive, that waterboarding isn’t torture, and many more legal hall of shame wannabes.

Read it and weep.
