You know you’re a gardener when…

… a tree can make your day or make you wistful.

I still miss the Keith Davey pistachio tree that I left at our old house (with instructions to the new owners that if they ever decide they don’t want it to call me and I’ll dig it out myself). That probably makes me weird. It definitely makes me a gardener.

But, perhaps I can begin to move on with the arrival yesterday of a huge, beautiful Bloodgood Japanese maple for the back yard landscaping project. The roughly nine-foot tree was contained in a 24-gallon wood planter box. It’s now in the ground, as the picture below (with Sparky the 24-pound, 2o-inch cockapoo posed next to it for perspective) shows:

And here’s a closeup of the tree’s beautiful leaves with the late afternoon sun backlighting them:

  1. Lovely looking tree – it seems to not be staked in. Were you advised that it would not be necessary?

  2. Nope, the landscapers staked it the next day.
