Robin Hansen provides a glimpse into what special education parents must deal with on behalf of their special needs students, including one district that spent more than half a million dollars to avoid spending $23,000 on educational services for one student.
Based on my conversations with lots of special ed parents, this is not unusual.
How would you prefer your school district spend its scarce dollars? On programs and services for special needs students, or on attorneys to fight their legal mandate to properly educate special needs students?
Far too many school districts choose the latter. It’s shameful.
