Fisking Bill O’Reilly

Biology professor and Pharyngula blogger PZ Myers fisks “awful little peabrain” Bill O’Reilly‘s anti-atheism rant, er interview, with noted zoologist and author Richard Dawkins. Read Myers’ post for lots of great stuff, but here’s my favorite part, in response to O’Reilly’s charge that science doesn’t have all the answers:

… science at least has the integrity to say that we don’t know yet what happened in a particular gap (but we may be working on it, and have a more useful strategy than waiting for a holy man to have a vision), while the religious wackaloons will instead fill that gap with pious certainty …

This is the main reason that I left faith and organized religion. The logic, reason, and critical thinking skills that creationists claim that god gave me wouldn’t let me value an alleged holy man’s visions that lead to arrogant, unfounded certainty about assertions that are easily disproven over the scientific method of testing hypothesis and searching for truth..
