Good step, not enough

The Associated Press is reporting that the Obama Administration is issuing Justice Department guidelines against pursuing medical marijuana dispensaries and patients in states that allow medical marijuana. This is great for anyone lucky enough to live in one of the states that permits medical marijuana. But it has two major flaws:

  • It’s only good for as long as we have a president who agrees with this policy.
  • It does nothing for suffering people in 37 states without medical marijuana laws.

I’ve written about the idiocy of our laws that arbitrarily prevent the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. I won’t recap the arguments, but you can find them here.

We need to change federal law to allow the use of marijuana for medical purposes within the existing drug and pharmacy system.
